Concrete Truck Rollover with Confinement

Today at approximately 14:14, Station 19, Station 42, Station 20, Station 76, and Adams Township Police were alerted for a concrete truck versus passenger vehicle crash with a rollover.

While en route, units were updated that one vehicle was smoking and that the concrete truck driver had self-extricated.

Engine 19 (W3) arrived at approximately 14:17, and Captain 19 established command. Crews checked the passenger vehicle and found no active fire. The concrete truck driver was confirmed to have self-extricated, with the truck carrying a full load of concrete that had spilled onto the roadway.

One elderly patient remained confined inside the driver’s side of the passenger vehicle. Crews removed the driver’s door and assisted the patient to waiting EMS.

Quality EMS transported both occupants of the passenger vehicle. Crews from Station 42 were released shortly after their arrival, while Station 20 assisted with a temporary road closure on the Evans City side of the crash.

Station 19 crews remained on scene for approximately five hours, working alongside Adams Township Police, PennDOT, McCann, and Chester Towing to clear the concrete truck and its contents from the roadway.

Prior to clearing the scene, crews were notified that one of the occupants had passed away.

The incident remains under investigation by Adams Township Police.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends, and everyone affected by today’s tragic incident.
