Residency Program
To address staffing challenges and enhance emergency response capabilities, the Callery Volunteer Fire Company established a Residency Program in 2018. This initiative provides qualified members with affordable housing in exchange for active participation in fire company operations.
Program Overview
In 2018, the department purchased its first two-bedroom home to serve as a residence for two members. This property offers private living accommodations and is considered each member’s personal residence. In 2020, a second two-bedroom home was acquired within the borough, expanding the program to support a total of four resident members.
Housing and Cost
-
Rent is $300 per person per month, inclusive of all utilities.
-
Members may offset rent through pay-per-call incentives or by documenting qualified standby time at the station or home.
-
Most resident members typically pay no out-of-pocket rent due to active participation.
Program Requirements
To be eligible for the Residency Program, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
-
Essentials of Firefighting
-
Firefighter I certification (within one year of residency)
-
Current CPR/AED certification
-
Basic Vehicle Rescue certification
