| Last night, our members traveled to Evans City on an off-training night to sharpen our skills with a new tanker operation tactic. Since much of Forward Township and Adams Township, surrounding area has no fire hydrants, our crews often rely on tankers to shuttle water to the scene.
The method we practiced—known as the “Rural Hitch”—allows the first-arriving tankers to supply the attack engine immediately, ensuring a steady flow of water while crews set up dump tank operations.
Training like this helps us operate more efficiently in rural areas and ensures we’re ready when the call comes. Since Callery VFC, Evans City are the only tankers left in the SAFER Group. |
